Believe it or not, this year marks the tenth year anniversary of the birth of the City of Bedias. And to celebrate, they’re having a birthday party Monday. And Bedias first and only mayor Macky Bobo says, “we’re inviting everyone!”
Bobo reminds Navasota News, in January of 2004 it officially became the fourth city in Grimes County to become incorporated. And the reason for the incorporation was a city wide sewer system.
And that’s, she says, when Mayor Protem Robert Upchurch came to her about incorporation. To accomplish the paperwork, Bobo explains, they had to take a census, hold community meetings and get a lot of help from state and national governments. And then it came down to a vote with a rousing 89% for incorporation (445 of the 500 citizens). This whole process, she says took two years.
Bobo says she doesn’t know who will show up for the birthday party but adds that one never knows in Grimes County.
If you would like to know whats happening in Bedias, go to the Bedias Civic Center at 7 Monday evening (10/13). And if you want cake, Bobo suggests you show up early.
