In a move to focus its activities on Texas, Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site will no longer host 4th of July fireworks. Assistant Park Supervisor John Faylor admits that’ll be breaking a long tradition that goes back at least two decades.
One of the things that went into their decision, Faylor tells Navasota News, is the recent increase in the number of 4th of July fireworks displays, and the other is a decrease in attendance lately. So, they decided to focus more closely on Texas celebrations.
The site’s first Juneteenth Heritage Celebration last month featured admission to the park with lots of music, prominent speakers, lots of fascinating exhibits, food trucks and a Kid Zone.
Meanwhile this Fourth, HEB joins Wells Fargo and Union Pacific in inviting you to the Bush Presidential Library in College Station for an outdoor “I Love America” celebration starting at 8:35, where a concert of patriotic music by the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra will conclude with … you guessed it … fireworks.
