Navasota FD sees surge in illegal burning calls

August 13, 2018 by Andre Perrard

The Navasota Fire Department stayed busy over the past weekend, as they received multiple calls of citizens performing illegal burns on their properties. Captain David Cooper of the Navasota Fire Department says the calls, while plentiful, have been mostly minuscule. The calls have revolved around people burning clearings and small amounts of garbage.

He says too in a bit of good news, people have been very cooperative with the department in keeping things under control. Everyone has put fires out immediately. Cooper says the high amount of calls has been attributed to people just not knowing about the burn ban.

A reminder from the Fire Department that the Burn Ban is still in effect. The Commissioners Court meets Wednesday morning, where the Burn Ban could be lifted.
