Ronald Lee Haskell, 33, has been charged with one count of Capital Murder (Multi). Haskell has been remanded to the custody of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
On Wednesday, July 9, 2014, Haskell traveled to a residence located on the 700 block of Leaflet Lane in North Harris County, demanding the whereabouts of his estranged wife. Posing as a parcel delivery driver, Haskell forced entry into the home, holding multiple juvenile victims at gunpoint. Haskell held the juveniles at gunpoint until additional family members returned to the home. During the incident, Haskell opened fire on the family, killing six and wounding one. Stephen and Katie Stay, along with four juvenile victims were killed during the confrontation.
Five members of the family were found dead upon arrival. Two were transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Medical Center where one juvenile victim was pronounced deceased, another remains in critical condition.
The surviving victim was able to provide first responders with information regarding Haskell’s whereabouts. Harris County Sheriff’s deputies located Haskell while en-route to confront additional family members. Deputies pursued Haskell into a subdivision where he was cornered in a cul-de-sac in the 4500 block of County Meadows. A multi-hour standoff ensued, and ended as deputies with the HCSO High Risk Operations Unit and Hostage Negotiation Team were able to secure his safe surrender.
Haskell is charged in the 351st District Court, with no bond, and awaits arraignment on Friday July 11, 2014.
