State Representative Lois Kolkhorst of Brenham has notified supporters she is interested in a state Senate seat should it be vacated.
Kolkhorst sent an e-mail Thursday stating she will make a public announcement next Tuesday (August 12) at 10 a.m. at the Washington County courthouse in Brenham.
District 18 senator Glenn Hegar is the Republican nominee for state comptroller. Kolkhorst’s e-mail states “When he (Hegar) wins the general election this fall, our state senate seat will be vacated and a special election will be called.”
Hegar is among four candidates seeking to succeed Susan Combs as comptroller.

Dear Friends,
It is with a humble heart that I invite you to join me on Tuesday, August 12, when I’ll make a public announcement of my plans to run for the Texas Senate.
As you know, State Senator Glenn Hegar won the Republican nomination to be our next Texas Comptroller. When he wins the general election this fall, our state senate seat will be vacated and a special election will be called.
After much prayer and consideration with my husband Jim and our two children Lois Kate and Jake, we decided the issues facing Texas are too big to ignore. That’s why I plan to announce my intention to run for Senate District 18.
WHEN: Tuesday, August 12th, 10 am
WHERE: Washington County Courthouse, 100 E. Main Street in downtown Brenham, TX 77833
You and I have been on the frontline, pushing back against an overreaching federal government that wants to control our lives and healthcare… but ignores the crisis we have on the border.
That’s why I want to be your voice in Austin, fighting for fiscal responsibility, the rule of law, and the sacred right to life. We face some big challenges in our area… from water rights to transportation fights… to how we can improve education.
As a State Representative, I’ve always remembered that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. As your State Senator, my campaign will need your support as I continue our battle. I hope you can visit me in person on August 12 during my kick-off. We will have drinks, light snacks and fellowship for everyone.
Even if you can’t attend in person, I hope you’ll take a moment to visit my website at www.loiskolkhorst.com, and “Like” our Facebook page, and be sure to follow us on Twitter as the campaign gets rolling.
Together, I know we can keep the government working for us, not against us.
God Bless,
Lois
