VERNON, Texas (AP) _ One of the largest ranches in the U.S., the W.T. Waggoner Ranch in North Texas, is for sale. Its listing marks the end of decades of lawsuits by the heirs of the Texas cattle baron who established the Waggoner estate in 1923.
The estate has been listed for sale for $725 million.
Brokers Sam Middleton of Lubbock and Bernie Uechtritz of Dallas are handling the sale. Uechtritz says the 510,000-acre Waggoner Ranch is the largest contiguous ranch in the United States. The estate also includes hundreds of houses and horses, thousands of head of cattle, 1,200 oil wells and 30,000 acres of cultivated land.
W.T. Waggoner’s father, Dan Waggoner, started ranching in 1849.
A state judge approved the liquidation Wednesday in Vernon. The Vernon Daily Record first reported the deal.
