Wednesday marked the first time in four months that the Texas A&M system board of regents held a meeting.
The regents hired a familiar name as the next next vice president of finance and administration on the flagship campus. Dr. Jerry Strawser announced earlier this year he was stepping down as dean of the Mays business school. Strawser’s salary was set at $362,000 dollars. His predecessor, B.J. Crain, earned $330,000. Crain is now a special assistant to the dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
The regents approved renovating the nine remaining Corps of Cadets dormitories and add two learning centers…one connecting Spence to Briggs and the other tieing Kiest to Fountain. The estimated price tag is more than $115 million dollars. Total completion is set for August of 2017.

Also on the agenda is upgrading the four utility plants to add cooling and heating capacity to the growing campus. The $20 million dollar project would be completed a year from now.

At the Riverside campus, the regents have been asked to give the green light to researching unmanned motor vehicles. Nicknamed CANVASS, the Center for Autonomous Vehicles and Sensor Systems would be staffed by researchers from 18 laboratories throughout the Engineering Experiment Station. CANVASS would be located in a new 6,000 square foot hangar and would require runway improvements.
