Repairs begin in earnest this week on the almost $1.5 million damages to Grimes County roads from the recent rain and floods. And with nine culverts assessed in desperate need of repair, a cadre of road crews will be knocking a third of them off that list this week, temporarily shutting them down.
This Shutdown includes:
From 9-3 Tuesday, Pearl Ln at FM 149,
Wednesday 9am-3pm County Road 302 between Mycrea and Gram flower,
And Thursday from 9am-3pm County Road 405 between CR409 and CR406
Road and Bridge’s Patty Stem tells Navasota News, these three culverts are on the top of the heap because of the extensive damages having caused some of the culverts to actually rot.
But Stem goes on to say, theses repairs should not take long and estimates the roads will be back open before their 3 o’clock deadline.
Even with local, state and federal declarations of disaster, she reports that so far the county has yet to receive any state or federal assistance with the costs, stressing it is working to change that.
These nine culverts represent only the a small portion of the total of damages the floods caused, stem continues, and you should expect to see more road closures in the near future as the recovery continues. And we’ll let you know as soon as they’re issued, right here on Navasota News.
