Ever wondered why both Navasota City and Grimes County officials are always stressing the importance of buying locally? Navasota’s Economic Development Specialist Destiny Whitley explains when residents buy within the city limits, it gets a percentage of the taxes and you can see savings in other areas such as lower property taxes. That being said, she tells Navasota News, the city is trying to make it easier for residents to buy local, by bringing more businesses, visitors and activities to its downtown area.
Currently, Whitley adds, the city is toying with new signage options to direct visitors around town. And with the recent departure of the filling station dinner and café, it is also looking for a new downtown restaurant to move in.
And for businesses looking to move here, she reports, she is currently working on a Navasota Business Guide, that’ll help business owners navigate the bureaucracy involved in coming to town.
And not only is the city trying to make Navasota a destination for residents in the surrounding area, she goes on, but is looking to launching a new farmers market early next month.
Keep it on Navasota News and we’ll let you know when and where that will happen.
