Residents and visitors of Grimes, and six other counties here in the Brazos Valley are now the first in the entire nation to be able to text 911 on all four major carriers.
Navasota Police Chief Justin Leeth tells Navasota News, texting 911 is a lot like calling it, in that you will reach a live operator, who will ask, via text, for the same basic information needed to help any emergency.
So just like with any cell phone call, Leeth explains, you will need know where you are ready before you make contact as your message may be relayed to a variety of towers.
Grimes County’s 911 Coordinator Kathryn Lee told a recent session of Commissioners Court, while this new texting system won’t replace the current call 911 system, but is now an alternative for reaching help in situations where calling or speaking isn’t possible.
