In order to get local traffic back to normal as soon as possible, Grimes County Commissioners ok’d the emergency replacement of the bridge over County Road 215 at Geter Creek.
County Road and Bridge Engineer Harry Walker told an emergency meeting of the court that Txdot reclassified the thirty-five foot bridge to a Level Two, out of a possible five; the next-to-the-lowest classification Txdot gives.
Walker told the court there are dozens of families living in the vicinity who depend upon that bridge on a daily basis, and since it was closed, have to travel several miles out of their way in either direction until it can be re-opened.
Walker says this is the county’s responsibility. It is not a Txdot-funded project and he expects it to run in the vicinity of $75,000 to $80,000.
Now that the county has given its approval, Walker says he’ll be touching base with a couple of contractors the county has used on similar projects before. And once a few details are gone over, the rebuild can begin. He estimates the new bridge at County Road 215 over Geter Creek will reopen in three weeks to a month.
