For the 12th year in a row, a bunch of big-hearted local bikers descended upon Yankee Tavern in Carlos recently to start Making A Christmas Happen for some underprivileged youth here in the County of Grimes. Tammy Pulkenin has been there since the beginning, and she says you’re invited to come join in the fun . . . and the blessing.
The group tries to find around a dozen needy families to help each year, through what Pulkenin says is a pretty intense selection process, with input coming from school, churches, food banks and the like. Then they make sure all the children have beds to sleep in, make sure they have appliances to cook on and keep their food cold, plus they bring all the children their gifts.
And gifts for the parents as well, she adds, in addition to a family Christmas meal.
If you think you’d like to have a share of the blessings of the Make A Christmas Happen program, call Pulkenin at 979-777-0313.
