Low-income Navasota homeowners living in their homes will soon be able to apply for needed home repairs or even replacement through the Texas Home Investment Partnerships Program.
City Council OK’d the funding application during a recent council session. Grantwork’s Shirleen Bonacci said the program’s so good that most first-time applicants don’t believe it’s real.
There’ll only be enough funding for a maximum of four homes here, but there are no fees for the homeowners themselves, Bonacci told Council. Their only requirement, she continued, is that they have to move from the home and it’s at their expense to find some place to live during the construction period.
And even after this year’s four are awarded, Bonacci said you shouldn’t get discouraged. We encourage them to continue to try and get the stuff they need to get so they can go forward next time, she said, adding that this happens more often than you would think.
Applications will probably begin to be taken from Navasota residents late this spring. and when they do, you’ll hear about it right here on Navasota News.
