As he sees the increase in acts of random violence get closer to home, Grimes County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Daniel Caswell told County Commissioners he’s concerned about the county’s ability to adequately respond.
So, Caswell asked for permission to utilize intergovernmental funds from the county’s current inmate housing contract with Washington County to pay for the new equipment he wants and the additional training that would be required.
Jessica Herrea of the county auditor’s department estimated that just shy of $21,000 could be generated between the available funds last year and this year.
Lt. Caswell then told the court that would do nicely.
Following the commissioners’ unanimous approval, Caswell was terse in his answer to County Judge Joe Fauth’s question about when the new resources would be in the field.
“The sooner,” he told the judge, “the better.”
