The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office in investigating an ATV accident that killed a Navasota man.
According to the press release, on Friday morning the 14th around 12 am, Grimes County Sheriff’s office responded to a call regarding an ATV accident on County Road 306 near Stoneham. Upon arrival, deputies found a man seriously injured after riding around the property. He was transported to the CHI St. Joseph Hospital in Navasota for head trauma and would succumb to his injuries two hours later.
The man was identified as 21 year old Samuel James “Sammy” Blair of Navasota. Blair was a former standout athlete at Navasota High School, playing football, track and baseball. He signed a letter of intent with Arkansas for baseball in 2016 then played for Blinn last year. He was part of two state championship football teams and two time district MVP in baseball in Navasota as well.
Investigators are awaiting an autopsy. They do not believe foul play was involved and believe it to be an accident.
Funeral arrangements for Blair are finalized. There will be a gathering of family and friends held from 5 until 7 pm Friday at St Mary Catholic Church in Plantersville. A vigil service and parish rosary will follow at 7 pm. A community candle light vigil will be held at 9 pm Friday at Rattler Stadium.
A funeral mass for Blair will be at 10:30 am Saturday at St Mary Catholic CHurch in Plantersville with internment to follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of remembrances, a scholarship in Sammy’s name is being set up at First National Bank of Anderson. Arrangements are with the Lindley-Robertson-Holt funeral home.
