Attention boating enthusiasts: you will soon be able to complete a key part of your ownership within the county.
At Wednesday’s meeting of Commissioner’s Court, County Tax Assessor and Collector Maryann Waters presented a contract for signature and approval to the Commissioners from Texas Parks and Wildlife.
“As you all know, we have been trying to get a contract with Texas Parks and Wildlife to be able to register boats and motors in our office as an additional service to the citizens of Grimes County,” Waters said. “This is the contract that they require us to sign.”
This means you can now register your boat or motor without having to leave the county. But, even if you do not live here, you still have the option to use the service in Grimes County if you prefer.
“They do not have to reside in Grimes County for us to do this. They can do it in any county,” said Waters.
Waters presented a spreadsheet of the amount of money the county would actually collect, which is 10 percent of almost all fees associated. The only one is the sales tax, which retrieves 5 percent.
The Commissioners unanimously voted to approve the contact with Texas Parks and Wildlife. The contract will go until August of 2020 when the Parks and Wildlife department completes their five year cycle and all contracts are renewed.
