The old pro shop at August Horst Park will now have a new use.
At Monday’s Navasota City Council meeting, the Navasota Kiwanis Club proposed renting out the pro shop for a new Boy Scout hut for meetings.
“We felt like it was a good fit for what they were trying to do. I think the location is really good…but there is some work that needs to be done on that building,” said Navasota City Manager Brad Stafford.
Currently, the building is used as a storage unit, which Stafford said can be cleared out easily.
Councilman Josh Fultz asked if there have been any other interested parties in using that building.
“No, we actually pitched it to the Kiwanis Club several years ago about a Boy Scout hut. But, we also had thought about a work out facility for staff…or, when we were thinking about an RV park in that area,” Stafford said.
And the park area could open up some fun opportunities, according to Master Benjamin Mendez of the Kiwanis Club.
“There are a lot of Boy Scouts who are about to do Eagle Scout projects, and I see a lot of potential Eagle Scout projects that I will try to direct them into those things, over at the park, so the community can benefit from those things as well,” said Mendez.
Richard Grimes of the Kiwanis club also added the disrepair the current meeting hut is in contributed to the move.
City Council approved letting the Kiwanis Club rent out the old pro shop at August Horst Park.
