Officers in Grimes County are getting some new equipment to keep them safe, thanks to the help of the Grimes County True Blue Foundation.
Presented to officers yesterday was a new device, called a Guardian Angel, which is a light for officers to wear on their uniforms. Intent is to keep them illuminated to traffic at night, as well as have adjustment to make it easier to see in the dark and be seen by others.
Sheriff of the county Don Sowell expressed his thanks to the Foundation during a broadcast of the event yesterday.
“Heartfelt appreciation. I do not have any fancy words to tell y’all, just this is very heartfelt and appreciated. What this foundation has come up with…so many agencies I think join me in the heartfelt appreciation for good citizen’s coming up and taking that step,” said Sowell.
Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt echoed the Sheriff’s praises.
“I think what is important, even going through these pains and hard times, is how important it is…the people that support law enforcement, because there is a lot of them. It is really important to the officers. So, I really appreciate and value…sometimes there is just no words that can express how much this is a great thing,” said Myatt.
The device will also have a helicopter beacon.
In all, the foundation purchased 100 of the devices.
