A local child care center is moving to a more spacious building in the future.
At last week’s Navasota city Council meeting, Angela Morales of Little Rascals Child Care, was presenting a specific use permit to move her day care from 313 South Judson, to a new development described as located at East End Heights, Block 1, Lot 14.
“The facility I am in right now only holds 15 children…and I have a really, really long waiting list,” said Morales.
The new facility would be around 7,000 square feet. They are the only day care in the county that provides transportation as well, according to Morales.
She currently has 3 employees, and that lack of size has caused her financial burden in the past.
“I have had to pay fines before because when headstart children come in…they get dropped off at 7 am, and have to leave to go to school. I have had an employee not sign them out when they leave. So, when the state comes and says ‘let’s see your records,’ and they are not signed in, and I go over 15, I get fined. It happens. It has happened to me. And not that [the children] are there, but they were signed in…so then, the state charges me a fine, and I have to pay it…because I cannot have more than 15 children at my facility,” said Morales.
She did not mentioned how many kids the new facility will hold, as the state must inspect it first.
The council approved the specific use permit for the move of the Little Rascals Child Care.
