A Montgomery man is facing felony charges for felony theft.
According to a release from the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA), 52 year old Shannon Dossett of Montgomery was arrested and indicted on September 9th for stealing his former business partner’s horse trailer.
The two men parted ways following a failed business venture in Spring 2018. Dossett was temporarily living in his former partner’s trailer in Balmorhea, between Fort Stockton and El Paso, when it went missing. An investigation was opened by the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and the Reeves County Sheriff’s Department.
TSCRA Special Ranger Clay McKinney, alongside Special Ranger Brent Mast, say the trailer was a 1997 model Elite brand trailer with living quarters, valued at $15,000, with an additional $2,000 in contents. The investigation revealed that Dossett hauled the trailer more than 500 miles to Magnolia, and sold it without the owner’s consent.
McKinney said in the release that this is a good reminder that property is not just stolen by strangers, but often by those close to you. He recommended keeping a thorough inventory, including identifiers like license plates, serial numbers, or VIN’s.
