The 20 year anniversary of the last deathless day has come, and gone, on November 7th. And numbers, at least this year, are still trending where that streak will continue.
DPS Sergeant Stephen Woodard, speaking on Let’s Talk Traffic on our station this week, said the number has gone up fairly significantly in just the last couple of weeks, and the yearly numbers are still staggering.
“3,036 folks dead in the state, due to fatality crashes. 3,036, that is where we are at [this year],” said Woodard.
He went on to say that, many times, all it takes to keep people safe is having a simple conversation.
“Your discussions with your kiddo’s, family and friends, about driving on the roadway, those discussions are important, they are extremely important. Because, I will tell you, one of the hardest things a trooper has to do…is knock on someone’s door, and say that unfortunately, your loved one will not be coming home, because they passed in a crash,” Woodard said.
Texas DPS reminds folks to drive safe and drive responsibly.
The 20 year anniversary was on Saturday, November 7th, as the last deathless day on Texas roads was November 7th, 2000.
