The push for more broadband internet connection continues, as Senator John Cornyn has announced a 10 year, $362 million federal grant, which includes Grimes County, and surrounding counties in the Brazos Valley.
That will help bring most of the 23 thousand underserved homes and businesses in the region gigabit internet service, according to the release.
In the cost breakdown, about $1.5 million will be spent in Grimes County, where two companies will be providing just over 4,000 customers service.
In surrounding counties, Washington County will see about $500,000 for just under 2,500 customers on one provider. In Brazos county, five companies will share more than $500,000 to provide service to more than 1,300 customers. Four companies in Madison County will split just over $500,000 to bring gigabit speed to 2,500 customers.
In all, the press release estimated bringing high speed internet to approximately 675,000 Texans in rural areas.
