A couple of crashes over the weekend resulted in two fatalities, and numerous people being sent to the hospital.
The biggest happened on Friday afternoon, which closed Highway 30, between William D. Fitch and the Navasota River, for seven hours.
According to Texas DPS, a westbound pickup truck and trailer, that were stopped and partially off the highway, were struck from behind by a dump truck. Also involved was an SUV and pump truck in the collision. The driver and passenger of the stopped pick up, both of whom were standing outside, were struck by the cars.
The driver, who was killed, was identified as 32 year old Jose Luis Cardoza of Bryan. The passenger of the pickup, as well as the driver of the SUV, were taken to college Station hospitals in serious condition.
All of this was one day after a Blinn College police officer was killed in a crash on Highway 21 near the Brazos River.
Last Thursday, 46 year old Christopher Luttrell was killed in that crash. Luttrell, who had also worked for the Caldwell Police Department, was driving an SUV which blew a right rear tire, and caused the vehicle to cross the center line, striking an oncoming FedEx truck.
The driver of that truck was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
