A Navasota man is in the Brazos County jail for the 9th time in four years, after a DWI and brief chase in College Station on Sunday morning.
According to College Station Police’s arrest report, they attempted stopping a 2015 Lexus, travelling at an estimated 50 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone, around 2 am on University Drive.
The Lexus was swerving, and almost struck another vehicle. The car stopped briefly, before it took off, and began evading officers. When it took off, it hopped a curb, and popped both rear tires, continuing until spinning out in a ditch on South College Avenue.
Four occupants got out of the vehicle, with the driver held to perform a field sobriety test. During that, the officers observed the smell of alcohol and the man not able to stand still. The officers also observed a false Texas driver’s license I the man’s wallet, and confirmed it to be false.
The driver was arrested, and identified as 25 year old Darius Jarelle Mallard of Navasota.
Mallard was also arrested on March 6th of this year in for reckless driving in College Station.
He was charged with DWI, Evading Arrest in a Vehicle with Previous Conviction, and a False Drivers License/ID. He has since been released after posting a $15,000 bond.
