A Montgomery man is in jail on animal abuse charges after fatally shooting his neighbor’s dog.
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, they responded back on March 10th to a cruelty to an animal call on Queen Elizabeth Court in Montgomery. The owners of the Labrador Retriever said he and others heard what they thought were gunshots. Moments later, the man saw his dog injured in the driveway.
When approaching his dog, the owner said that the neighbor admitted to shooting the dog for defecating in his yard. The man told deputies the same thing.
The dog passed away on the way to the veterinarian, where he was confirmed to have died from the gunshot.
The man was arrested on May 7th, after the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office received an arrest warrant for non-livestock animal cruelty. He was identified as 76 year old Rolf Meier of Montgomery.
Meier faces the non-livestock Animal Cruelty Charge, which is a third degree felony, and is in jail on bonds totaling $3,000.
