Texas electric providers are given the green light to resume issuing disconnect orders.
Approval was given by the Texas public utility commission Friday, that lifts a moratorium that followed February’s winter storm. Commissioner Will McAdams said he was looking ahead to summertime electric consumption.
“The longer we stay in this, kind of regulatory limbo, the more these consumers are going to be rolling these large averages into the fall,” said McAdams.
Commission chairman Peter Lake said new disconnect orders can be issued in seven days.
“Customers deserve to know their current standing with their electric provider…current balances…only once that new, updated disconnect notice has been provided, can that provider start the normal process to an actual disconnect,” said Lake.
Lake and McAdams, who make up the P-U-C, told electric customers to contact their staff if they have trouble making arrangements with their providers.
