A Navasota woman was one of two mothers arrested for leaving their children alone Sunday evening for over three hours.
Officers in Bryan received calls from a neighbor concerning the safety of a young man, who was spotted walking outside at 1 am. The arrest report says the 12 year old said he had to “get some fresh air” because of all the screaming inside the house.
Two girls then came outside, aged 10 and 11 years old, both of them crying. Inside was a sleeping 9 year old girl and a 3 year old boy running around the home. It was noted in the report as well that the home was in a state of disrepair, and the three year old was running around in a full diaper, that had not been attended to for hours.
While speaking with the children, one of the mothers called, and eventually returned to the home. The mothers, identified as 32 year old Kelley Lavette Williams of Navasota and 28 year old Bridgette Monique Johnson of Bryan, said they had not been gone more than an hour. Williams then told officers they had been at a bar before getting the call about the children.
Both were arrested on Charges of Child Abandonment. Williams also faces charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance PG2, and Failure to Identify. A third woman who arrived in a separate car, identified as 28 year old Krisha Phillips of Bellville, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance PG2 and Failure to Identify.
Williams remains in the Brazos County jail on bonds totaling $20,000.
