As Grimes County keeps growing, fire chiefs face some growing concerns over water access.
Dan Sharron, the chief at the Shiro Volunteer Fire Department, addressed the Commissioner’s Court during public comments on Wednesday, saying his concern grows as the new Brushwood Subdivision is built off FM 2620.
“When [Harry Walker] sent me the plat of that subdivision, I looked, and there was no fire connection on that system. They are putting in two 10,000 gallon water tanks, with 10 horsepower motors. When I called the general contractor, they said they do not have one…I told them they have to have one. He called back, and said there would be one,” said Sharon. “I have not seen any updates, and ask the court to follow up to make sure that fire connection is there.”
He says getting fire water access to that area is critical.
“That would give us, at least something, between the Tenaska Frontier and Bedias, because there is no water on the east side of Shiro. There is none, anywhere,” said Sharron.
Sharron said, he assumes, once that line is in, that fire crews will be able to access it, and it will not just be a line for residential use.
Also on the agenda was approval of a waterline running underneath County Road 179 near Singleton, but Sharron noted that line would be too small for fire access.
