The Grimes County official website might be getting some long awaited upgrades down the road.
IT Director Greg Cannon spoke at Wednesday’s meeting of Commissioner’s Curt about the complaints he has gotten, and what the biggest issue is to him.
“It is not mobile friendly, at all. If you try to look up anything from a tablet or phone, it is almost impossible. It is designed strictly for computer. So, that has been a frustratin from citizen’s,” said Cannon. “It is also hard to maintain…it is outdated technology, that is just hard to use.”
Mentioned too is the fact that mobile pay not being available is a common frustration.
The department are looking to switch the content creator over, as well as the hosting. But, to convert everything to take it more user friendly, was around $25,000.
Cannon says complaints form citizen’s roll in consistently, and while there is no firm plan in place, something needs to be done sooner than later.
“We get a tremendous amount of traffic on our site…it is quite busy. Plus, all our social media that ties into the site. With this update, we would be able to better integrate our social media with our website,” said Cannon.
No action was taken, as no formal offer or contract was presented.
Cannon did note that their hosting fees would drop exponentially with a future change, from around $4,300 a year to around $200 a year.
