If you are looking to install a culvert on your driveway in Grimes County, you are looking at least a small cost to do so.
Road and Bridge Engineer Harry Walker recently presented a fee increase to $25 for the installation of culvert, which he says they get more requests for than you might think.
“In the past, we have not charged a fee for this…it is a a permit where we are sending a superintendent out, to survey the site, and get the size of the culvert. They bring that back, then we issue a permit. At this point in time, we receive anywhere from 200 to 250 permit requests every year,” said Walker.
That was a last week’s meeting of Commissioner’s Court.
Walker said some surrounding counties go as high as $100 for the fee, but felt $25 for his office is more than enough.
And as the theme is of late, the growth locally is part of it.
“We are getting a lot more requests, and it is taking more, and more of our time,” Walker said.
Commissioner’s approved the fee increase for installing culverts in Grimes County.
Overall, it could generate between $6,000 and $7,000 of revenue for his department, Walker noted.
