As we inch toward a May election with tons on the ballot, Grimes County’s newest election administrator is settling into her role.
“I am a local girl, originally from Montgomery, but I have always had my eye on Grimes County…always wanted to move here, Anderson specifically, and be part of the community. My choice was absolutely right, because as soon as I got here, it was all I hoped it would be,” said new elections admin Rachel Walker in our station last week.
She says jobs in the corporate world, and running her own small business, led her to this point.
As for her first election here, she says they did not send out reminders this year, like in years past, for the mail-in ballots. If you are interested in voting that way, you need to act pretty quickly.
“Registration for them opened January 1st, to renew the ballot by mail. To vote by mail for this May 6th election, you need to have the application submitted by April 25th. However, those applications will continue through the year, with another cutoff for the November election…if we do not receive the application, though, we will not be sending you a ballot by mail,” said Walker.
You can also request a sample ballot from their office by contacting them at 936-873-4422.
