Three state senators from the Brazos Valley, including Grimes County’s Lois Kolkhorst of Brenham, have joined the lieutenant governor in promoting a package of nine bills intended to reform the ERCOT power grid.
Dan Patrick summarized the package as a way to start building more power plants now, fueled by natural gas and other “dispatchable sources,” to provide enough capacity during extreme weather conditions.
“We are going to have renewable’s to keep our air clean, and prices low. That is why a lot of companies move here. We will also have guarantees that in the worst conditions, when you hit that light switch, the lights come on,” said Patrick.
The legislation comes from the Senate’s Business and Commerce Committee, which is chaired by Brazos County senator Charles Schwertner, and whose members include Kolkhorst, and Brandon Creighton of Conroe.
