According to a press release from the Grimes County Constable’s Office Precinct 1: On July 5, 2023 at approximately 1:40pm, Deputy Constable James Ellis and Grimes County K9 Deputy Zack Pavlock were within the Bedias community for traffic enforcement. Around the above stated time, Deputy Pavlock attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet SUV for no vehicle registration. The vehicle accelerated to speeds in excess of 90 mph on SH 90 before turning east bound onto Bob Mathews St. The vehicle continued to flee down Bob Mathews St. and was temporarily lost. Deputy Constable Ellis located the vehicle behind a residence near the dead end of Bob Mathews. A male subject was located at this residence and taken into custody. While he was being detained, a .22 caliber pistol was recovered from his person.
Cody Lee Cortinas was charged on site with Fleeing a Police Officer (MB) and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon (MA). Deputy Pavlock transported Cortinas to the Grimes County Jail without further incident.
