According to the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, on August 12, 2023, at approximately 10:10 PM, Sgt. Santana was traveling southbound on State Highway 90 coming from Singleton when he checked the speed of a grey four-door colored sedan at 98 MPH. Sgt. Santana activated his overhead emergency lights, to where the driver acknowledged, slowed down, and took a while to come to a complete stop. Sgt. Santana contacted the driver, Korey LaWilliam Moore, a black male, and the driver admitted that he was speeding excessively. Sgt. Santana immediately detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana and instructed the driver to exit the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted which resulted in the recovery of suspected methamphetamines, Xanax, Marijuana and a loaded firearm concealed near the engine block. Mr. Moore was arrested and transported to the Grimes County Jail without incident.
Moore was charged with Unlawful Possession Firearm by Felon (Felony 3), Possession of a Controlled Substance PG1 Greater than 4 grams, less than 200 grams (Felony 2), Possession of a Controlled Substance PG3, greater than 28 grams (MA), Possession of Marijuana, less than 2 ounces, and No Driver’s License.
