According to a press release from the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, “On November 17th, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Grimes County Deputies were dispatched to the Shiro Grocery Store off SH 30 in Shiro. Dispatch received reports of a male subject with a machete who had attacked two or more victims. Upon arrival, Deputies found a male and female subject behind the store in an RV with severe lacerations. Deputies began lifesaving measures.
AirMed transported the two victims to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston where the victims remain in stable condition.
During the investigation, the suspect was identified as Elpidio De Leon Gonzalez out of Shiro. It was later discovered that Gonzalez had been in a relationship with the female victim in the past.
With the assistance of The Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigation Division, Refugio County Sheriff’s Office, and Refugio Police Department, Gonzalez was arrested at approximately 1:08 a.m. in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Gonzalez will face two (2) counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, 2nd Degree Felonies.”
