According to a press release from the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, “On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, Albino Hernandez Guerrero, age 52, pled guilty to Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Escape.
On July 23, 2021, the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office responded to an assault call. Investigators determined Albino Guerrero attacked a man with a knife. The victim, who was in a relationship with a woman who was previously in a relationship with Guerrero, sustained a deep laceration that required hospitalization.
As a result of this incident, Albino Guerrero was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a second-degree felony, and booked into the Grimes County Jail.
On September 13, 2023, at approximately 1:20 p.m., Albino Guerrero, who was working as a trustee in the Grimes County Jail while awaiting trial on his aggravated assault case, walked out of the jail sallyport and fled on foot.
A multi-agency manhunt ensued for the escaped prisoner, which included TDCJ dog teams. Albino Guerrero was spotted by local citizens, who called law enforcement. He was captured and taken back into custody around dusk the same day. Guerrero was charged with Escape, which is a third-degree felony.
Albino Guerrero pled guilty to both offenses before 506th District Judge Gary Chaney.
Guerrero was sentenced to 10 years in prison on each case. The sentences were ordered to run concurrently.
Albino remains in the Grimes County Jail while awaiting transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.”
“Albino Guerrero violently attacked a victim. He then planned and succeeded in escaping the Grimes County Jail. Many man hours and a substantial amount of tax dollars were spent on Guerrero’s capture. These resources would have otherwise went to serving victims of crime and enforcing the law. Our office felt strongly that only a maximum sentence was appropriate for the escape.”–District Attorney Andria Bender
