An exchange of gunfire Wednesday night took place as officers prepared to search a home associated with a woman who was shot. A woman told police she was grazed by a bullet and fled the scene. After obtaining the warrant, officers from Cameron as well as officers from nearby Rockdale, Milam County Sheriff’s Deputies and Milam Department of Public Safety troopers served the warrant. The suspect opened fire on law enforcement, and was mortally wounded when officers returned fire. The wounded officer was taken to a nearby emergency room where he died from his wounds. Names are being withheld until families are notified. The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
