A Grimes County woman faces felony criminal mischief charges, with others pending, after shooting and killing her neighbors cattle.
A press release from the Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association says that 45 year old Shelly McCoy of Anderson was arrested last week. An agent with TSCRA and the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office responded to an area off County Road 224 near Anderson, and discovered numerous cattle had been killed since September 2022.
An interview with the rancher led authorities to suspect the neighboring McCoy, who was arrested after a warrant was issued January 10th. She faces the one count of Criminal Mischief for now, with other felony charges expected, according to the news release.
A representative with the TSCRA says 16 cattle were killed, and there might have been more. A motive was not mentioned.
McCoy has since been released after posting a $10,000 bond.
An investigation is ongoing.
