A major accident on Highway 6 in College Station resulted in the death of an Anderson woman on Friday.
According to College Station Police, they were called to the scene of a major accident at Highway 6 and University Drive on Friday around 4:45 pm. Officers say that an 18 wheeler travelling southbound on Highway 6 had one of its tires separate from the vehicle. Parts of the tire landed in an adjacent lane of traffic, causing all the Southbound vehicles to slow.
However, one 18 wheeler with a flatbed attached was unable to slow in time, and steered into the grass median. This caused the flatbed trailer to detach and land on the cab of the 18 wheeler. Upon arriving at the cab, they found the driver with incapacitating injuries and the passenger deceased.
The victim is identified at 45 year old Teresa Ann Schwertner-Lee of Anderson. The driver was unidentified and was taken by helicopter to the hospital.
The 18 wheeler that has the tire separate continued travelling on Highway 6. Highway 6 wAs closed for a few hours while crews cleared the scene.
