The 101st annual Navasota Grimes County Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet is Thursday evening the 23rd at beautiful Camp Allen. But, as Chamber Director Johnny McNally admits, it hasn’t always been known by that name.
He says he knows that in the ’40s, it was the Navasota and Grimes County Chamber of Commerce. And then it was the Grimes County Chamber of Commerce as noted by the signs on our building, and then it became the Navasota Grimes County Chamber of Commerce as noted by the most recent signage.
Besides being the Chamber’s largest fundraiser, this annual outing recognizes those who’ve contributed to the community’s promotion and growth. And according to McNally, growth as it’s measured by chamber membership has been steadily on the increase.
This year’s theme is “True Texas,” and along with the delicious dinner and live Texas swing music, the featured speaker will be the Lion of Texas himself, Sam Houston.
And, McNally insists, that IS his real name. He’ll be looking back at Texas lore and telling tales from the early days of the Republic. And also surely be taking some political jabs. Who can resist?
Not many, apparently, because tickets are going very quickly; almost as quickly as are sponsorship availabilities. For details, visit Navasota Grimes Chamber dot com, or call 936-825-6600 today.
