Another Grimes County deputy promoted to Criminal Investigations Division

Another officer from the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office has been promoted to investigator.

Sheriff Don Sowell announced Monday afternoon that Deputy Swank Backhus was promoted tot he Criminal Investigations Division, to join working with Lieutenant James Ellis.

Backhus started with the Sheriff’s Office in 2009 as a jailer and dispatcher. He attended TEEX Academy in 2011, working the Patrol Division from 2012 to 2014. He returned to the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office in march 2018 to the Patrol Division.

According to a statement from Sowell, Backhus “has exceeded the expectations of his colleagues…and has proven himself to be a huge asset to our agency.”
