The weekly COVID-19 update has been released for Grimes County, and another increase for the third straight week puts the city of Navasota over 100 active cases.
According to the release sent Monday, there are 173 active cases in the county, with 103 in Navasota. The release had no new news in the way of recoveries, which stands at 33 still, and 18 have been lost to follow up.
City Manager Brad Stafford, at last night’s city council meeting, broke down the numbers testing wise.
“Our negative rate for testing is 92.4 percent, out positive rate is 7.6 percent, which is below the state average,” Stafford said.
He added his frustration with the lack of updates on the recovery side from the Department of State Health Services.
“I am going to say it again, I say it every week, I question those numbers, with what we know personally from talking with people,” said Stafford.
Thus far, 2,950 test have been performed in the county.
There were no Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) numbers in the release. However, most recent update on the TDCJ dashboard says there are currently 37 total active cases, 24 employees and 13 offenders, at the Pack Unit, with 399 recovered. For the Luther Unit in the southern reaches of the county, there are 7 active cases, all employees. Both units remain on lockdown.
