Residents of the County of Grimes with a passion to make cancer a memory are getting together a little earlier this year for their 14th annual Relay for Life.
Online Advocacy Chair Dodie Emmonds says there’s a special reason for the date they’ve chosen. She tells Navasota News those in the Relay are tired of fooling around with Cancer, so that’s why they chose April Fool’s Day
Emmonds particular passion began when she lost her grandmother to cancer when she was a teen, and more recently it took both her father and step-mother.
The Relay here lasts for 12 hours, but you can walk as much, or as little of it as you want because teams can be of any size; composed of friends, co-workers or family. Emmonds says there’s several ways to get involved; register online at relay for life (spell it out, no numbers) dot org., of you can join a team, or you can start a team, or you can sign up as one of our heros, which are survivors, because we want you to come walk with us because we are there for you all.
And circle March 9th on you calendar. That’s when Navasota’s First Baptist Church is hosting this year’s Survivor Recognition Dinner. we’ll have more about that for you later, here on Navasota News.
