According to a press release from the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, “On Thursday, January 2, 2025, at approximately 7:10 p.m., the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, along with surrounding agencies received information from Victoria Police Department that they were looking for a grey 2024 Chevrolet Trax (SUV), TXPL# TRF7306, that was involved in a shooting that had occurred around 5:10 p.m. The occupants were considered armed and dangerous, and the suspect vehicle was possibly heading to the Brazos County area.
Around 9:00 p.m., a Grimes County Deputy located the vehicle heading northbound on SH 6 near the SH 105. With the assistance of the Texas DPS and Navasota Police Department, a high-risk stop was conducted near FM 3090, where one female driver and two male occupants were detained.
A probable cause search was conducted on the vehicle. A backpack containing marijuana and digital scales were in the backseat where one of the male passengers was sitting. Deputies also recovered a semi-automatic 22-caliber rifle that had been reported stolen out of Victoria Police Department on December 31, 2024. The vehicle also had exterior and interior damage that was consistent with gunshots.
The driver, Lexey Walton, was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (F3) and Possession of Marijuana <2 Ounces.
McArthur Mathis, who was the prime suspect of the shooting, was charged with Aggravated Assault/Date/Family/Household/Serious Bodily Injury (F1), Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Possession of Marijuana <=5LBS>4 Ounces (FS).
Devron Hodges was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (F3) and Possession of Marijuana <=5LBS>4 Ounces (FS).
The Victoria Police Department is currently still conducting its investigation of the shooting.”
