Arrest made in Grimes County animal abuse case

August 22, 2018 by Andre Perrard

Last Wednesday, nearly 300 animals were seized from a property off Highway 30 in Carlos, living in what authorities described as “deplorable” conditions. In fact, Grimes County Sheriff’s Office investigator Kendale Pittman said it was the worst case he had ever seen.

After about a week, an arrest has been made. On August 21st, the woman residing at the property turned herself into authorities. 75 year old Doris Bevier Clark of Anderson was charged with cruelty to livestock and non-livestock animals, which is a Class A Misdemeanor and punishable by no more than 180 days in jail and a fine not to exceed $4,000.

249 dogs and 49 miniature horses were found on the property, surrounded by multiple dead animal carcasses and even bones.

Clark was later released after posting $10,000 bond.
