The historic Horlock House’s newest artists in residence are hosting their first open house from 2-4 tomorrow afternoon, Saturday November 5th. And just in case you haven’t met the trio yet, here is a quick rundown.
First there’s the quick-draw artist, only she’s uses paint instead of a gun in her artistic endeavors. Ashton Hall says she is an “en-plain-air” painter, meaning she paints outside. And on a good day she can use oil paints and an oil stick to create a realistic portrait in one day.
During the residency, Hall says she wants to see more of the Lone Star state; from the deserts in the west to the gulf. But, she adds, there is plenty in the Texas Blues Capital that keeps her inspired to put paint-to-canvas.
Then there is the Hill country native. Originally from San Antonio, Adriana De Luna says she recently earned her degree in Art from the University of the Incarnate Word.
And despite being a Texan, De Luna says there was still a bit of culture shock for her going from the Alamo City to Navasota, as she turned in the big bustling city for a place she describes is quaint and where cowboy boots and ten gallon hats are more abundant.
Speaking of what else is different, she smiles, if you have an interest in fantasy, you’ll want to stop by and can experience for yourself what her imagination has wrought, as De Luna takes her inspiration from not just her surrounding but also the fantasy novels she reads.
And lastly, there is the artist who has hopped from one side of the globe to the other. Experimental painter (who-freesh) Hufreesh Chopra tells navasota news, she was born and raised in a small town in India, and for the past few years lived in California’s Silicon Valley. So far her time here has been a nice change-up from the west coast.
As for her work, Chopra says each piece is a new adventure as she tries to distance her personality from the painting process and goes into a sort of meditative state. Then, the artist continues, she attempts to portray a world unseen.
Now that you have an idea of what’s in store, come on out and give these Artists a proper Grimes County welcome.
