Authorities still searching Lake Travis for missing Navasota man

July 12, 2021 by Andre Perrard

A Navasota man remains missing after disappearing July 4th weekend on Lake Travis.

The swimmer has since been identified as 28 year old Lonnie Gray of Navasota. The Travis County Sheriff’s Officer says they responded around 5 pm July 3rd to the Hatter Cove area of the lake.

Gray was seen swimming in an area several football fields in length, 85-130 feet deep, with groves of trees at the bottom, which hamper sonar and diver efforts.

Shoreline searches along with deep sonar went on all last week with no result. Also used were search dogs and underwater remote vehicles.

Surface and shoreline searches will still be done on duty, with diver and sonar done intermittently.

Gray is one of three swimmers missing on Lake Travis the last decade who have not been recovered. The last was May 2018, when Manuel Salad of Elgin was last seen near Mansfield Dam, and July 2014 when Song Hy Sok of Dallas was seen near Sandy Creek Arm.

No further information has been released.
