The Navasota Airport’s efforts to get their own Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) have taken just over a year to fulfill, but it is nearing completion.
“This weekend, starting Friday, the contractors will be here to install the AWOS, and it will be up in a test mode this weekend. The following week, the tower will go up…it will be in test mode though, until the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) comes back to commission it,” said Public Works Director Jennifer Reyna at Monday’s City Council meeting. “That could take a couple months, just depending what their schedule is like.”
Reyna did not mention a timetable for when the FAA might approve the system.
Outside of the AWOS, Reyna says that they will be going out for bids later this month on the Capital Improvement Project.
