Dangerous Cargo Travels Through Grimes County

October 29, 2014 by Willy1550

The most dangerous type of oil to transport is called Bakken Crude. And, as Grimes County’s emergency management coordinator told a recent meeting of the local Emergency Planning Committee, it only comes from North Dakota.

David Lilly reported receiving notification that trains carrying a million or more gallons of this Bakken Crude have already traveled through our neighborhood.

Generally, he said, there’s more like 60 or 70 crude oil cars per train.

But, Lilly was quick to add, it was the investigation into the Canadian tragedy that led to the issuance of notifications like the one he just received.

So even though you probably won’t be aware the next time a bunch of Bakken Crude travels through the County of Grimes, you can rest assured that all of the local emergency response folks will be.
