A high speed chase that began in Bryan ended at the Navasota River yesterday with a standoff.
It began around 1 pm Wednesday, when the murder suspect from Bastrop County took off southbound on Highway 6.
Navasota Police set up spike strips, but the car ran off the road into bushes at the railroad track, just before the Navasota River. Police then initiated a standoff with the man, who was reported as unresponsive. Navasota SWAT also assisted Texas DPS in ending the chase.
The driver, 22 year old Raul Anthony Caballero, was taken to the hospital via helicopter, with both lanes of the Highway shut down for almost 2 hours. All lanes of traffic reopened around 5 pm.
Caballero is accused of killing his 19 year old girlfriend Sofia Vera, and dumping her body on December 30th, in Bastrop County.
His condition is unknown, and no further information has been released.
